I switched from OpenAI’s gpt-image-1 ($0.04/image) to Cloudflare Workers AI (free, 230 images/day) and saved $340 in my first month. Same image quality. Zero downside.
Here’s exactly how to set it up. No coding required. No credit card required.
What you’ll need
- A free Cloudflare account (sign up at cloudflare.com — takes 30 seconds)
- That’s it.
Step 1 — Sign up for Cloudflare (30 seconds)
Visit cloudflare.com → click “Sign Up” → enter email + password → confirm via the email they send.
You DON’T need to add a domain. Just create the account and stop there.
Step 2 — Find your Account ID (30 seconds)
After login, look at the right sidebar of the dashboard. You’ll see “Account ID” with a long string like:
abc123def456ghi789jkl012mno345pq
Click the copy icon next to it. Save it in Notepad — you’ll need it in Step 4.
Step 3 — Generate an API Token (90 seconds)
This is the trickiest step. Follow exactly:
- Top right of dashboard → click your profile icon → My Profile
- Sidebar → API Tokens
- Click Create Token (top right)
- Choose template: Workers AI (search if needed)
- Click Use template
- On next screen: leave defaults, scroll to bottom, click Continue to summary
- Click Create Token
- CRITICAL: copy the token RIGHT NOW. They won’t show it again.
Token looks like: cKhTgz_pXqM4n_RjWvYQdEhA9bL8FmKxHsTuVkBg
Save it in Notepad next to your Account ID.
Step 4 — Plug into WP Auto Agent (60 seconds)
In WordPress admin → WP Auto Agent → Settings → Image Provider tab:
- Choose: Cloudflare Workers AI (FLUX)
- Account ID: paste from Step 2
- API Token: paste from Step 3
- Click Test Connection — should turn green ✅
- Save settings
Step 5 — Generate your first image (instant)
Click “Test Image Generation” with prompt:
golden retriever on a beach at sunset, cinematic lighting
If you get a good image back in 4-8 seconds → setup complete. ✅
What you actually get for free
- 230 image generations per day (FLUX Schnell model)
- HD quality (1024×1024)
- No watermarks
- No commercial-use restrictions
- Works for blog posts, Pinterest pins, social media, products
Common mistakes I made
- Don’t confuse “Account ID” with “Zone ID” — Account ID is in the right sidebar.
- Don’t tick “Read all resources” when creating the token. Use the Workers AI template specifically.
- The token shows ONLY ONCE. If you lose it, make a new one — there’s no recovery.
The real reason this matters
230 images/day = 6,900 images/month = enough to run 5 different blogs simultaneously. For free.
The only “cost” is 5 minutes setting it up. After that, it just works forever.
If you’re paying anything for AI images right now, do this today. Your wallet will thank you.
